studies allow you investigate your target language and culture more deeply? What first prompted your interest, and motivated you to start
learning? What feedback have you received from your classmates and Dr. Marsh-Soloway, and how have you adjusted accordingly?
I first decided to take the SDLC class because I realized that my Korean language skills were decreasing as I was using it less and less. I think the tutoring system with peers is very useful, for it makes the learning environment more approachable and comfortable. I have discussed with my tutor various resources to utilize for this semester, including movies, popular news sources, and especially the Korean "google". So far, I have learned various slang terms that I can use with my native speaking friends. I plan to further build my language learning by meeting with my tutor outside of tutoring sessions and regularly speaking in Korean as well. My peers have advised me to be more specific in my goals, and thus I have adjusted them accordingly by setting smaller, more concise goals that can be attained in this fall semester. I have also looked into the various online resources that Dr. Soloway has shown us in class and plan to use those as well. I wish to learn more about Korean culture so that I can be more knowledgeable and have more historical and cultural background to be aware of when I visit Korea over the winter break. I believe that this class will also help me communicate and socialize with my Korean relatives and friends in Korea better. I will also talk to my parents over facetime in Korean more often and improve my conversational skills. My tutor also mentioned a few popular korean books that will help me with my reading and interpreting skills.
