Cultural Post 8 (Artifact 4)

12746861701?profile=originalI learned to make kimbap with my friend. We wanted some really good kimbap but could not find where to buy it near us, so we decided to make some kimbap on our own. We bought ingredients like ham, eggs, raddish, carrots, rice, dried seasoned seaweed, fish, and other vegetables. We cut up the ingredients and rolled the white rice and seaweed into rolls with the ham, egg, and other vegetables in the middle. In Korea, kimbap is a must have when you go camping or on trips. It is super simple to make, and there's a tradition that you bring kimbap to field trips or campfires.

  • Very cool idea for a cultural immersion activity; I find that engaging in the cuisine of another culture is a very interesting way to look at how they conceptualize the plants and animals available to them to produce delicious things. Would you be able to move the text down so it doesn't register as an image caption? I'm not able to read past the second sentence.

Is that photo your results? If so, you should be very proud :)

One of my favorite experiences in Bali was taking a cooking class in which we learned how to make a common spice mix of about 20 different spices, herbal tea and juice, and a green crepe-like pastry with coconut.

What is your favorite Korean restaurant in the Richmond area?
