Journal entry 4
As the semester comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting deeply on how much I’ve grown as a language learner. Not just in terms of fluency, but in confidence, consistency, and cultural awareness. My overarching goal was to improve my Korean fluency by building vocabulary, practicing conversation, and understanding more about Korean culture. Looking back, I can say with confidence that I made significant progress in all three areas. When the semester started, I evaluated myself as a novice high in interpersonal communication. I often hesitated during conversations, got stuck on word choice, and second-guessed my grammar. But now, thanks to regular conversations with Jason and immersive exposure through K-content and audiobooks, I feel more comfortable speaking and listening. My sentences are longer, I pause less, and I’m more willing to take risks in my speech. A big part of this growth was my partnership with Jason. This reciprocal relationship made our conversations more dynamic and real. The feedback he gave on my pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary was crucial, but just as important. I think it was also helpful recording conversations, re-listening to audiobooks, keeping a vocab journal, and doing self-quizzes. These activities helped me stay organized and track my progress. I realized that even small daily habits, like reviewing words before bed or talking to myself in Korean, can build fluency over time. Language learning was so rewarding. Talking about dramas, food, and personal stories with Jason helped me see how language builds bridges. I’m learning not just to speak Korean but to think and connect in Korean, to understand humor, express frustration, show empathy, and more.Since I will be graduating I want to continue challenging myself to learn more about Korean culture and expand my vocabulary and grow more. I also want to challenge myself by reading short novels or essays in Korean and attending community events where Korean is spoken. I’ll continue recording my speaking to monitor progress and push toward greater fluency.

Dynamir and realtime conversations were something that I also found to be extremley helpful in developing my Korean speaking skills! Feedback on pronounciation, gramar, and vocabulary are also aspects that my language partner provides and I found to be extremley helpful.
