Class 1 (Previous one got deleted)

During our first meeting, we discussed my personal goals and plans for future classes. I reflected on my experience as a Global Studio partner last semester and what I learned from it. At the beginning, I struggled to find an effective way to teach Ted. To better prepare for this semester and beyond, I have decided to focus on becoming a better teaching partner. After some discussion, we decided to explore strategies for teaching students at beginner, intermediate, and proficient levels. Last semester, Ted was at the intermediate level, making it easier for me to teach him. However, I anticipate challenges when working with students at varying proficiency levels. My goal is to focus on teaching beginner-level students before spring break and then shift to intermediate and proficient-level instruction afterward.

During the second and third week, we began exploring common difficulties students face when first learning Korean and how to address these challenges. I learned that beginners often struggle with combining consonants and vowels to form words. For example, many students find it difficult to combine the character ‘ㄱ’ with ‘ㅏ’ and add ‘ㅅ’ at the bottom to create the word ‘갓.’ Recognizing this, I focused on learning how to effectively teach basic consonants and vowels to beginners in the following week. I should first teach all the consonants, covering both how to write and pronounce them. Then, I would introduce vowels, starting from ‘ㅏ’ to ‘ㅟ.’ Once students grasp these basics, they can learn how to combine characters into syllables and understand their sounds. While there are irregular pronunciations, those should be introduced only after students have mastered regular word formations. With the following words they combine, I can start teaching how to create simple sentences. For example, the sentence is structure as “noun is/are verb/adjective.” In the following month, in March, changing format of sentences will be learned, like future, past, and irregular format. Also, I also heard one of the difficulties student face is speaking to elders and youngers.
