My primary focus has been on improving my listening and speaking skills in Korean through the TV series Squid Game. Claire and I watched two episodes together, during which she paused to explain key sentences, grammar, and cultural contexts. I also worked on writing short sentences using the vocabulary and grammar I learned from the show. My goal was to enhance my comprehension of spoken Korean in real-life contexts and to learn practical phrases and grammar structures that are commonly used in everyday conversations. Claire introduced a new and engaging method of learning by incorporating Squid Game into our sessions. She paused the show at key moments to explain the dialogue, grammar, and cultural nuances. This approach not only made learning more enjoyable but also provided me with a deeper understanding of how language and culture intertwine. I also plan to set aside time for regular speaking practice to improve my fluency and confidence. I successfully learned and used several new phrases from the show in my conversations with Claire. One particular phrase, “이건 뭐야?” (What is this?), became a staple in our discussions.
