What is your ultimate goal? What is your goal for this semester?
What do you want to be able to do with this language at the end of this semester and in the future?
I want to be able to hold a fifteen minute conversation in Korean and be able to talk about daily routines and things of such nature.

What tasks will you complete and what activities will you do this semester to meet your goals? How will you document and evaluate your progress?
Novice learners should consult the ‘Language Tasks’ page of the SDLAP Wiki and incorporate the required tasks in their learning. Be as specific as possible when planning activities, e.g., “I will watch YouTube videos to learn how to talk about the family.” or “I will consult a grammar text to learn about possessives.” Make sure you include some tasks that are relevant to your interests, e.g., “I will learn to understand soccer commentary.” or “I will learn to talk about the stock market.” Culture and language are, of course, inseparable. It is expected that all your language will be culturally appropriate and that every task will contribute to your cultural competence.

Task 1
Type of Task ___ Interpersonal Communication

What do I need to learn to complete this task? (goal) I need to learn how to hold spontaneous conversations on topics such as daily routines or be able to respond appropriately to a given prompt.
How will I learn? (learning activities and resources) My most valuable resource and the way I will learn is by communicating and discussing prompts with the people around me who have a level of proficiency in Korean
How will I document what I have learned? (artifacts) I will record the conversations I have and see if there is progression or not
How well can I accomplish this task? (self-assessment) I would say this task is relatively doable and achievable as long as I stay consistent and diligent.

Task 2
Type of Task ___ Interpretive Listening

What do I need to learn to complete this task? (goal) Be able to understand / comprehend at least 80% of the main idea in some form of Korean content or media
How will I learn? (learning activities and resources) I will use short Korean news clips, possibly podcasts, and forms or entertainment (K-drama, etc.) as a resource
How will I document what I have learned? (artifacts) I plan on documenting a summary based on what I understood and comparing it with what the actual contents were.
How well can I accomplish this task? (self-assessment) I can refer back to transcripts if they are available to see how accurate I was.

Task 3
Type of Task ___ Interpretive Reading

What do I need to learn to complete this task? (goal) Be able to read and understand a few sentences in Korean whether it be from blogs, news articles, etc.
How will I learn? (learning activities and resources) Reading news articles and reading text messages / texting in Korean (writing)
How will I document what I have learned? (artifacts) I can document a list of new sentences or words I have learned and document or summarize what I read based on understanding
How well can I accomplish this task? (self-assessment) I can assess my ability to see whether I understood what I read with a set accuracy.

Task 4
Type of Task ___ Presentational Speaking

What do I need to learn to complete this task? (goal) Be able to introduce myself in Korean
How will I learn? (learning activities and resources) Practice fluency, pronunciation, enunciation, and grammar.
How will I document what I have learned? (artifacts) Record voice notes / videos
How well can I accomplish this task? (self-assessment) I can test myself periodically to gauge the level at which I am able to introduce myself

Task 5
Type of Task ___ Presentational Writing

What do I need to learn to complete this task? (goal) Be able to write a few sentences in Korean about simple things such as my daily routine or a hobby.
How will I learn? (learning activities and resources) Practicing forms of written communication such as texting in Korean
How will I document what I have learned? (artifacts) Maintain a portfolio, keep a log, or revise what I’ve already written
How well can I accomplish this task? (self-assessment) Check my writing for any mistakes such as grammar and ask a native speaker or someone who is proficient in Korean to assess my writing.

I've organized my self-directed learning plan based on achievable and tangible measures. Much of my layout requires practice and actual hands on practice with the language whether it be engaging in speaking, listening, or writing. As far as resources go, I plan on consulting with my course mentor for what would be the most optimal but some I have in mind already are forms of media / songs on Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube as an additional learning resource. My studies will allow me to absorb some of the culture as is likely embedded in the form of movies or tv shows on top of learning the language itself. I think what first prompted my interest for learning the language was purely just to be able to communicate more fluidly and be able to connect with my culture.
