Overall learning Korean with Jason has been very successful, it was good coming into the year already having a semester of Korean under my belt. We were able to jump right into reviewing what I previously learned from last semester which has stuck with me throughout the summer. In the first few weeks of class, we have been going over the alphabet and previously learned statements in conjunction with doing a bit of reading. It has felt very good going over previous topics because it boosts my confidence in language learning, I felt like I really did learn a lot last semester with Isaac which makes me very happy. Going back to my learning plan Jason and I have been focused on conversational Korean, although we are keeping it basic we have gone into intricate topics such as grammar and word order which is something Isaac and I did not dive into as much. Learning about grammar for me is not as fun but it is something that you have to understand if you want to speak the language to its full potential. Although it does make me feel great when I'm able to form a sentence and Jason confirms with me that that is the same way he would have formed that sentence. We have been taking advantage of the resources around us, for instance, we have been using whiteboards in order to work on my writing along with displaying information. I prefer writing things out when learning a language than typing them on a computer which Jason has been very accommodating to. I believe that our current strategies of building on prior knowledge have been working well, each week Jason brings in something new to learn along with reviewing what we have learned in the past really emphasizing my capabilities while still learning new information every time we meet. I also really enjoy the dialogue that Jason and I have about the pace of class and the willingness to go over things that I am a bit confused about no matter how long it takes for me to understand. Overall I feel like the first few weeks I've gone better than I expected, I've retained a lot more information than I thought I would from last semester and I've been able to implement it into our current learning plan. I look forward to continuing my Korean journey with Jason as my teacher for this semester. So far I can only say good things and I am sure that the good things that we have built upon will only continue.
