Journal Entry 1
These past weeks, David and I have been watching a kdrama to revisit one of my learning goals from last semester. That is, to expand my vocabulary. I feel like I’ve learned a lot last semester with my previous language partner, Joseph, but I still wanted to learn more. We went over some new vocabulary words and phrases that we've heard while watching the kdrama. I feel like I need to learn more advanced terms and also words I just didn't know. I've never really talked about cooking in Korean, so when I heard the words for onions, cabbages, and carrots I was so shocked to realize that I didn't know such simple words. Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to continue looking out for new words that I didn't know and going over them together with David. I think from one episode, I was able to learn 12 new words on average! I was able to appreciate how wide the world of the Korean language is. I think that knowing a lot of words and knowing how to say something in multiple different ways is a skill every second-language speaker should possess in order to be a successful speaker in that language. I’m looking forward to keep on learning at least one new word every time I meet with David.

Good stuff, James. Watching K dramas to expand your vocabulary is similar to watching League of Legends commentary to hear more Korean words and get more vocabulary exposure. Thats amazing that you were able to learn 12 words per episode! I may steal this strategy from you and start watching K dramas to expand my vocabulary!
