My learning plan is mostly centered on the basic acquisition of fluency and literacy skills. Since I am a complete beginner in nearly all aspects regarding the Korean language, I think my focus this semester should be on learning how to read and write, as well as acquiring basic vocabulary and sentence structure. Once I've learned basic grammar and vocabulary, I will focus on solidifying my speaking skills by conversing with my family and teaching fellows. I will also try to improve my reading by consuming children's literature and Korean television (by means of subtitles). In terms of learning resources, I have not yet identified a textbook I'd like to use, but I have selected several media resources. I plan on using bilingual books such as "My First Book of Korean Words" and "I Love to Eat Fruits and Vegetables". There are several television shows I can use, such as Pororo, Robocar Poli, and Tayo the Little Bus. My decision to learn Korean was mostly personal. I decided to learn Korean as a means of accessing my culture and heritage. I believe that through learning Korean, I will finally have access to a cultural world that I was unable to before.
