Learning Plan

My learning plan consists of starting by listening. (I understand this is late, I apologize, but part of this was listening to the podcast you sent me). Listening even to Portuguese or Brazilian radio through RadioGarden to familarize myself with sounds, etc. is definitely where I am starting.

The next part is comparing my known Spanish with Portuguese. I know they are similar languages, so comparing vocabulary, basic terms/items, to see what I can grasp easily seems smart. I feel like I have a head start with my Spanish knowledge. Then, it's important to start with other basic words, just like a baby learning a new language. I think the way we learn language as an infant should hold true when learning new languages. Listening --> Speaking --> Reading --> Writing. (Maybe with a few tweaks: listening and speaking, then I can put basic words down in a notebook.)

I want to also register with Rosetta Stone because I've never used a resource like that. I've done some research on it, and it is one of the top ranked language learning sites. It could definitely be useful.

By learning Portuguese, I am hopeful to learn more about the history and culture of the Portuguese people. I want to combine my language study with a dive into anything I can find on the History Channel or Youtube. I love getting to learn about these kinds of things, and what better than to pair it with language study.

Romance languages as a whole have captured my interest. It may be a shoot for the stars moment, but I'd like to simultaneously learn Italian basics as well as Portuguese. Even elementary understanding seems useful.
