Learning journal #3

Because it's the last week of classes and it's very close to finals week, I’m just going over what I learned for the past semester instead of working on new things. Jason and I haven’t gotten the chance to meet for the following two weeks due to busy schedules. So I’m just focusing on reviewing the grammar, vocabulary, and conversational phrases.

To review, I used several strategies from earlier in the semester, like rereading, practicing by speaking to myself or to an AI chatbot, and watching online lectures. These strategies are especially effective for me because visuals help me understand things better and by actually speaking it I would feel more confident and more comfortable.

Going forward, I want to build on what I’ve learned by continuing short, consistent review sessions so that the vocabulary and patterns I learned can be retained. When Jason and I meet again, I would like to review topics that are complex, such as number systems and time expressions, and use them in longer, more natural conversations. I also want to connect language with culture more intentionally by asking more questions about how these phrases are used in everyday life and in different social situations.

Emotionally, I feel pretty good because I can see how much more comfortable I feel speaking korean compared to the start of the semester. I am trying to stay enthusiastic and avoid letting small mistakes, like mixing up forms or forgetting a word, take away my motivation, since earlier in the semester I noticed that frustration of not learning something fast enough could easily make me want to step away from learning. In the future, I plan to adjust my strategies by scheduling shorter but more frequent speaking practices, using self-recordings or voice notes when a partner is unavailable, so that I keep working on real-time speaking even during busy weeks.
