Discussion Post 9

Languages go extinct when there is no one in the world who can teach the language. The links don't work on Blackboard, but we did talk about it in class. Languages need speakers who know the language and can continue to teach or pass it onto their children or people in their community. Linguists can most likely preserve a language if they learn the three components of the language and ensure that it is continuously being spoken in a culture. A dead language be brought back to life if there is still a way to learn the language from old manuscripts, audios of the language, and artifacts of the language culture. Once it's learned, it can be reintroduced back into a culture.
