Discussion Post 7

So far, my learning is going according to plan. Since we meet once a week, I knew that there would be a slow progress in learning. I think that there is a benefit to it because I allows me to really marinate what I learn throughout the week. I've finished reestablishing my understanding of Korean and now have been going over speaking proficiently with fluidity. We did change our approach to this topic though because I wasn't improving that well with the strategy we were initially using. We start using reading as the main strategy because you have to process each character and the word the characters make up and pause in between words which helps with speaking with fluidity.

We have used some course materials in my learning such as using the phonetic articulatory chart and tried creating pronunciations for Korea words. Class discussions on phonetics also helped me know the differences between the phonetic inventory or English and Korean. The relationship between language and culture is that a language is derived from culture or similar cultures. In order to improve my communicative competence, I need to work on four components: strategic competence, sociocultural competence, grammatical competence, and discourse competence. We've only worked on sociocultural and grammatical competence, so working on the other two would help a lot.
