  • For my cultural project, I want to focus on stereotypes, both misconceptions that hearing people have about the deaf and how the deaf community feels about people who can hear.

    I want to learn:

    1) about audism, which is the belief that you are better than something simply because you can hear and they cannot. I want to do some more research about this.

    2) about some stereotypes that hearing people may have about the deaf. For example, that they cannot drive or are unable to have children.

    3) more about hearing aids, how they work, and how the deaf feel about them.

  • For my culture project, I would like to explore Korean Fashion. Korean Style has developed its own trending and special fashion style. There are similarities but, obviously, they have significant differences between Korean style and Western Style.

In this project, I want to learn

1 Explain what Korean Fashion Style is

2 Show various Korean Style Outfits and some famous Korean fashion Brands

3 Compare Korean Style with American/Western Style

4 The influence of Korean style on other countries

  • For my project, I would like to focus on Korean work culture as it relates to American work culture. I've considered working in Asia after graduation, and knowledge of the differences in work culture is important for anyone who would like to work abroad. I got this idea from an early episode of the Korean talk show Abnormal Summit, during which foreigners who live and work in Korea discussed adapting to the work culture there. In this, I will include:

    1) Hierarchy in the workplace, particularly gender roles and age, and how strict these structures are

    2) How this hierarchy is legitimized by the language and what vocabulary exists to denote that someone is superior to you

    3) Expectations of time spent working

    4) Social events among Korean companies

  • For my culture project, I will talk about how my life would have been different if I would have remained in Korea. Because I have been a student since I moved here, I expect a large portion of my presentation to focus on the differences between the Korean and American education system. In addition, I will talk a little about the lifestyle differences and the variance in what my interests would most likely be.

My goal is to be able to:

    1. Display the lifestyle of a typical Korean student, particularly pertaining to school

    2. Compare and contrast the lives of Korean students with Americans'

  • For my cultural project, I would like to explore Korean Variety Shows.  Variety shows in Korea are extremely different than the ones (if any) in the US.  Much of the things seen on variety shows reflect upon the culture of Korea.  This relates to my language learning because I feel variety shows use a more colloquial version of Korean.  I'm learning some textbook Korean and this is a great way for me to gain a more social speaking of Korean.

    1. Explain what a variety show is

    2. Showcase the different formats of variety shows

    3. What this reflects about the Korean language and society

  • The Partition of South Asia was a traumatic event that ripped two nations apart. The two new nations that were born of the same womb were strikingly different. While Pakistani languages adopted the Persian script, which evolved from the Arabic script, Indian languages adopted the Devangari script. Therefore, I want my culture project to be about how Siraiki came to adopt the Persian script.

    I want to learn:

    1. How the script was introduced into the subcontinent?
    2. What part did the local Meers play?
    3. What part did Ranjit Singh play?
    4. How were the Mughals important?
    5. Which British policies influenced the Siraiki people?
    6. How everything came to be after the Partition?
