For my cultural project I decided to look at the significance of religion, specifically the Ahmadi sect within Islam, in the Pakistani culture. I began by looking at the life of Mohhamed Abdus Salam, an internationally celebrated physicist whose legacy has little impact on his home country of Pakistan due to his adherence to the Ahmadi faith. From this I learned about the history of the Ahmadi and their place in Pakistani society and history. By examining these topics through online sources and discussions with Pakistani friends I was able to learn about the importance of religious association (because of the communal culture), the importance of Islamic theology and the progressive direction Pakistan is moving in regarding the acceptance of some Islamic sects (though the progressive movement is still in its infancy). By learning about these topics I was also able to come across much interesting vocabulary that arises specifically from culture deeply rooted in its religion.
Topic: Bollywood
I would like to research the Bollywood drama industry and investigate its impacts and effects. Hindi learners can benefit from watching Bollywood because they can immerse themselves in the Hindi language and the Indian environment by hearing the language tones. Watching Bollywood also allows viewers to understand Indian culture. Bollywood gives a view of India through fashion, music, dance and its social culture.
Learning Goals
My cultural project is based on Korean cuisine over the rituals and long history. Because nowadays Korean cuisine is more and more globalized, you can easily find a Korean restaurant everywhere.Korean cuisine is a unique cuisine. I want to know how the Korean cuisine develop? I think that understanding and overviewing the general food culture will help me study Korean well.
Learning Goals:
1) Know about the history of Korean food.
2) Research why Korean food can be globalized.
3) Investigating how Korean culture, environment, geography and climate influence Korean food.
4) How collectivist influence the rituals of preparing and eating food.
Topic: Korean Drama: Its Impacts & Effects
I would like to research Korean drama industry and investigate its impacts and effects. Korean learners can benefit from watching Korean drama because they can immerse themselves in Korean language environment by hearing the language tones. Watching Korean drama is a great way not only to learn Korean, but also to understand Korean culture, for example apprehend the clothing Korean wear in a daily basis and in a formal event, the food they eat regularly, the place they live, the Korean family environment, the working environment, and everything else.

This is an excellent topic, but it is perhaps a bit too broad. It might be enough to go in depth about the origins of Korean drama and how it reflects Korean society--with examples.

For my culture project I would like to overview how Pakistan has been affected by Militarization over time. This topic relates to my language learning because it helps me understand a topic that is pertinent to the people of Pakistan. There have been several terrorist attacks that have occurred in Pakistan which has forced the government to make some extreme decisions in terms of government, schooling, and safety. Given that these are topics of extreme importance, I believe that understanding and analyzing these changes will help me understand how both the people and language of Pakistan have been affected.
Learning Goals
1) To be able to understand a general history of Pakistan
2) Develop a timeline of events
3) Investigate how Militarization has affected the education system of Pakistan
4) Further analyze how this affects language and the learning of language
