Weekly Learning Activities
My main goal for this semester was to practice my writing, learn some grammar and read better. During most of this course my language partner and I were using a website (Persian-language.org) that had three books with about 20 lessons. Each lesson started with vocabulary that will be learned, then the story would follow and after that the grammar will be explained. At the end it would have a quiz on how much you learned. This was a very good website since it focused on all the areas that I need to work on, writing, reading, grammar and vocabulary. First I would do the lessons by myself and then we would go over it. My language partner would help me understand the vocabulary that was unfamiliar, clarify the grammar and the spell the words for me and I would write it down. With each lesson I would learn a little about the culture from the stories, different rules about the grammar and increase my speed of reading. In this manner we have done two books and then the website went under reconstruction. We were not able to access it again. The next method that we tried was to find different children’s books and continue doing the same thing with each story. To prepare myself for each lesson I would find a book to my level and read some pages , find out the meaning of the unknown words. It was not very difficult for me to read the simple stories for children; however reading a BBC news article was difficult. It took me a lot of time to understand the meaning of the story. Along with this activity I would try something different like watching news and then summarizing. I will still need to practice my writing, be able to spell words and increase my speed in reading, Start reading at a higher and higher level,
