I learned about geography of Turkey with maps of Turkey in the class. Turkey is surrounded on three sides by the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean Sea. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, but the capital is Ankara. Turkey has population of 65 million, and 47% of them live in the countryside. Turkish people call their land as mother land, Anavatan Partisi or Anavatan, which is its abbreviation. It is a large peninsula located between Europe and Asia, so that it is hard for them to identify which one they belong to. Usually, residents in the west part identify themselves as European, while those in the east part identify themselves as Asians. It can be vary from the region to region and person to person. It is important to Turkish where they grew up; therefore, when they introduce themselves, they usually differentiate where they currently live and where they grew up. Tourists might be afraid of visiting Turkey because of terrorism, but it is safe unless they go closer to the borderlines between Syria according to my language partner.
