Sound is the vocalization of phones; so when one is speaking, they are using a sequence of phones to create words and sentences. Also, sound requires an airstream, such as the lungs, to transport the phones into open air. The larynx, the tongue body, the tongue tip, and the lips impact the airstream in which phones are articulated (silent letters for example). Some words also require an irregular length of sound, strength, and pitch of each individual phone. On the other hand, spelling is the conjunction of phones using consonants and vowels to create meaning/words. Depending on the location of each phone or syllable, the word may be stressed differently in different scenarios such as a question or exclamation.

Catalan has 2 extra letters in their alphabet as compared to english: the se-tan-cada and the ella-gem-e-nada (Ç and l.l). The “c with the tail” is pronounced like an “s” and the ellagemenada is pronounced as two strong “L” sounds with a break in the middle. Catalan as has many words that contain the phone “IX” which is pronounced like a “sh”, and they also have the double ll, which is pronounced as “yuh”. There are also many accents which put emphasis on letters or syllables. Catalan also has 7 vowels which are a,e,i,o,u- but the e and a the o can be written with different accents on them called “open and closed accents” For example, é which would be pronounced in a word like “prey” and è which would be pronounced in a word like “get” the same goes for “ó” which would  be pronounced in a word like “note” and the “ò” which would be pronounce in a word like “not”. All of this will be hard to remember because even though we have stuff like this in English, it will not come naturally to me. I will have trouble pronouncing words if I don't remember these little rules. Once I get them all down though, listening, writing, and speaking will be much easier for me.
