SDLC 110: Learning Journal 1

Summarize your assessment and goals in a blog post in your learning journal and on the first page of your learning plan.

As an intermediate level Korean speaker with some basic background on the Korean language, these are the goals that I want to accomplish by the end of this semester:

  • Vocabulary

    • Memorize 10 new Korean words per day on the weekdays through flashcards and learn how to spell them

      • Utilize phone apps

  • Listening Comprehension

    • Listen to podcasts in Korean (2x a week?)

    • Watch Korean television shows (reality television, or fictional)

      • Write short summaries regarding the topic of the shows afterwards

  • Speaking Comprehension

    • Speak to a fluent Korean speaker at a set time about whatever topic (whenever meeting with teacher)

  • Writing

    • Write daily journals reflecting on whatever topic in Korean, increasing the word count progressively over the semester

The most important part of what I want, however, is to increase my vocabulary. Many times when I talk to other Koreans, I can speak relatively well without any grammar mistakes, but there are times when I don't understand the vocabulary or I forgot what a certain word means in Korean. I would like to be able to improve this aspect of my language capabilities.
