State your learning goals for this week and how you went about accomplishing these goals.
I have organized my self-directed learning plan to focus on speaking and listening. I have been listening to my Spotify playlist and it has helped me greatly understand certain words. The music allows me to get a glimpse into the culture. The lyrics and the melody of Bangladeshi music are very different than American music. A lot of popular American music is explicit and may easily contain foul language, but Bangladeshi music does not have any inappropriate words. This difference highlights how culture and society are very different in Bangladesh. For instance, having a relationship before marriage is accepted in America and in Bangladesh, it is looked down upon. I also watched the Bengali movie “Wrong Number.” I first watched the movie with subtitles and then without the subtitles. It was very interesting to see the culture and hear the language in the movie. As stated before, my interest in the language sparked by my ultimate goal to go to Bangladesh this summer. I also would like to connect with my roots. I believe that keeping up with these asks will definitely help me achieve these goals.
