In addition to discussing the resources (see above), outline how you have begun to work on your first language tasks.
I have bookmarked many different sites to help me in my learning. BYKI has been discontinued, but I think it would have been a great source. Exploring Mango, it seems like it is going to be one of the most beneficial sources for me. Mango helps with conversations and strengthens one’s day-to-day communication, which is what I am specifically looking for. I also found that the Global Studios has an audio set called “Complete Bengali with Two Audio CDs: A Teach Yourself Guide,” which will greatly help with my listening. I will also be using YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify for my other sources (see below). I have found two cooking videos, and I will be picking one of them. I found a movie on Netflix called “Dark Chocolate,” which looks like a thriller, and I love thriller movies.
For my first language task I needed to listen to a few Bengali music, which I have been doing for the past few days. I am currently listening to two songs: “Ei Fagun” and “Din Gelo.” Ei Fagun is a romantic song by Imran and Oyshee that touches on long distant relationships. Faigun is a specific month in the Bangladeshi calendar; typically the month is filled with vibrant flowers. The female and male are distant from one another, and the song is just about how much they miss each other because they cannot find anyone else. They are stating how “Ei Fagun” or “This Fagun Month” we will meet and we will fall in love again. Din Gelo translates to “Days Pass” and the song is another romantic song about how a man is waiting for his love interest, hoping that one day she will show up. Days without this girl are like “puri agonay,” or burning in fire. I chose both romantic songs with similar backgrounds because it makes it a bit easier to understand the lyrics. I really enjoy listening to these songs. I have discussed each word with my learning partner, and I can understand both the songs. I will be looking for more songs! Also, I have noticed that there are a lot of romantic songs in the Bengali playlists that I have found. I wonder if it is because romantic relationships before marriage are often looked down upon, so the artists write about it to hit a larger audience.
