Observing the “Levels of Competence” document I have categorized myself as a novice learner and my goal is to become intermediate learner (developing 1) in Bengali by the end of the semester. Listening and speaking will be my primary area of focus during the semester. For reading and writing, I would like to be able to recognize the letter and possibly put letters in small words together. From the assessments I have taken, I have realized that I am a highly visual learner. I am currently looking for movies and television series in Bengali. By observing the actors talking and gesturing it will help me follow along with their words and the story. I am also in the process of making a few flashcards with Bengali words. Perhaps by looking at the words and correlating them with the English term, it will help me learn faster.
