SDLC 110: Cultural Post 9

Eighth Cultural Post:  Reflect upon what you have learned from the cultural projects presented in class.

The cultural projects were very interesting and they made me more aware and knowledgeable of the different beliefs and values that people follow. For instance, I thought it was very interesting how in Ethiopia the people follow a religion that is oddly similar to Islam and Christianity. They pray seven times a day and fast, which is a bit similar to Islam. Also, I learned how many of the different cultures being studied in class are quite similar to Bangladesh’s culture. For instance, the emphasis on arranges marriages and family in the Korean culture is very similar to the Bangladeshi culture. Same-sex marriage is something that is not common in Bangladesh, which was also very similar to South Korea. Lastly, I also enjoyed learning about the markets in the Senegal culture. In Bangladesh people really need to know how to bargain, which is very similar to the markets in Senegal. Also, a lot of times the people who are selling products know that you are foreign because of your ability to speak Bengali, so it is very important to have a Bengali accent and know what exactly to say.
