Attitudes about Time in the Target Culture
“Baje” means “time” in Bengali. Telling time is quite simple in Bengali. All that needs to be done to tell time is placing the numbers before the word “baje.” One o’clock is “ekta baje.” In general, Bangladeshis are not as punctual as most westerners. Growing up in a western culture, I have learned to value time a lot more than my parents. Typically if Bangladeshis need to arrive at an event at a certain time, they do not arrive until about thirty minutes to an hour after the set time. I am not sure about the reason for the tardiness.
