Reflect on your experiences of (trying to) read and write in your target language.
When I first started my classes with Atul, it had been close to 3 and a half years since I had read or written Hindi. It was hard during the initial weeks of re-familiarizing myself with alphabets, tenses and grammatical structure, but with each class I felt an increasing sense of confidence in my abilities. I remember struggling a lot with the first newspaper article that I read with my language partner, but practice makes perfect as they say.
As far as writing is concerned, I think that with Hindi, once you know the word, it is fairly easy to write it since the spelling matches the sound of the word, unlike in English or other languages. Improving on my reading helped my writing significantly as a result.
