Both readings describes characteristics that various cultures presents: individualist versus Collectivist, nonverbal communication, monochronic versus polychronic, internal versus external, direct vs indirect communication. And the 6 dimensions of culture are individualism, power distance, masculinity, uncertainty avoidance, long term orientation and indulgence. Different cultures would be prone to different sides of the spectrum. And people from that culture would be significantly influenced. I think that some of these characteristics are associated together. For example, if a culture is more towards collectivism, it will also tend to prefer indirect communication and be more monochronic. I am originally from China, and I think Chinese culture is somewhat similar to Korean culture in many aspects. Both cultures tend to be more collectivist and internal. People value time and community more than personal interests/values. So being familiar with this kind of culture can help me with studying Korean because language is deeply associated with culture.
