I decided to write about Punjabi music. I have grown up listening to various Punjabi songs and artists whether it was at a cousins house or a wedding in England. I have a select few songs that I want to talk about. The first is my grandfather's favorite song "Apna Punjab Hove" by Gurdas Maan. This song, I feel, embodies classic Indian ideals. My grandfather was born and raised in Punjab, he moved to England in his early twenties to raise a family. I think that this song allows him to remember the "splendor" of his childhood and everything that he wanted in his future. As the times change so does the music, lately the Punjabi music that I have come across has become more and more westernized. For instance, my favorite Punjabi song is "Dil Luteya" by Jazzy Bains (or Jazzy B). This song is not his most westernized song however the modern sythns show a modern approach. I have noticed that although the music is becoming westernized one thing remains constant: the drums. Most Punjabi songs use the same drums which have been used for many generations. My latest find was Punjabi Dubstep, this is really interesting, it shows that the world is becoming a smaller place.
