Learning Plan

In my Korean class, we worked on consonants and vowels and reading the different combinations that they can form. As I was reading the chart, I also gave examples of words that are spelled with whichever said combination. This really helped visualize and understand at how the word is properly pronounced, whereas before I would try and memorize how to pronounce a word that I’ve been told or heard. Therefore, I never fully understood on how to pronounce certain words, I would forget the word, or I would forget how to pronounce it because I was going off by memory.

We don’t utilize any books like textbooks because a lot of charts or helpful worksheets are easily found online. I also know where my weaknesses and strengths lie, so I would most likely lose interest if I were to follow a textbook because of how structured it is –if that makes sense. I appreciate the format of SDLC 110 because I am able to go at my own pace and learn about what I need help in. In our first lesson, my instructor planned to just go over consonants and vowels, but I wanted to apply what we learned and use examples. This is because I already have some conversational skill, so to be able to use examples of words I already know made learning how to read/memorize/understand what we were learning a lot easier.

I always look forward to our lessons because I’m excited to finally reconnect with my culture and language. Furthermore, I feel very motivated because I’ve always wanted to gain proficiency in my conversational skill, so I don’t have to feel so embarrassed when I do try to converse with others –especially adults. I’m a highly sociable person which is why I always get frustrated when I try to speak Korean because I’m unable to speak my mind or give my full thought or opinion on something.

After my presentation last class, the feedback from my classmates were encouraging and entertaining since another one of my fellow classmates was also learning Korean. Overall, I’m excited for my Korean journey and am very motivated to improve my Korean to the best of my abilities.
