When we have planned our syllabus at the start of the semester, me and my classmates all really wanted to learn about tourism in Korea. We’ve have all been very fascinated with the Korean Culture and want to visit South Korea in the near future, and during the fifth week of our class we studied the basic conversations for traveling and asking for directions in Korean. This is applicable not only for traveling to Korea, but also maybe for giving direction for those who can’t speak English in Korean.

Continuing our conversations on the fifth week, we looked at specific tourist sites within Seoul. 경복궁 or Gyeongbokgung Palace was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty, that was built in 1395. This palace is free of admission fee if tourists visits wearing 한복 which is traditional Korean Clothing. I think this is very smart way of advertising because it promotes the Korean culture and also allows a more well-rounded experience. 세종대왕’s statue, as well as the famous 광화문 are also in the same area, making it a popular tourist sight where people can learn a lot about the history of the country and also experience the culture. Another Seoul Landmark is the 남산타워the South Mountain tower. Brenda explained to us that the color of the tower itself changes depending on the air quality of that day. I have seen many YouTube videos and reality TV shows that was shot at Namsan Tower, and it is also very famous for its 야경 which means night views, allowing tourists to see the entire city from above. More modernized areas such as 청계천 (CBD area), 명동and 한강 are where younger people and tourists gathers, and are also areas where one can experience the most authentic Korean pop culture.
