This month I continued to write in my notebook that my grandma gave me. I think I am getting a lot better every time I write in it. However, it kind of did get boring writing in it. I am trying to set a positive mindset to think that it is good practice since I am getting better the more I write.  This month I started writing down some memories about my grandfather and started brainstorming for my writing assignment. One of my favorite memories I thought of was when he would ride rollercoasters with me. Everyone in the family got surprised when we figured out he LOVED riding roller coasters. They thought he would not like them at all.

I met up with my language partner, Somyung and we would talk about my progress and also enjoy Korean meals. I would go over to her apartment to talk and have conversations in korean. She took me to a Korean event in VCU called OICF and I got to meet new Korean people that are in Richmond, Virginia. It was like a worship session for Christians where we would sing praise songs and listen to someone’s experience. I really liked hearing the experience because it was nice to listen to how people overcome their struggles in life. I also never knew there were so many Koreans living in virginia. It was really nice to meet everyone.

I continuously met up with a lot of Korean freshmen this month. I think I find my peace and comfort when I speak with people in Korea now. It may be because of my grieving process for my Grandfather but it is really nice to talk to people in a different language other than english. This month I learned a lot more about Korean food. I was able to experience making some myself. I would get rice, tuna, seaweed, and kimchi. Then I would make the triangle kimbap frequently found in Korean convenience stores. I really missed having them so I made some and shared them with the Korean students in the university. They really enjoyed it which also made me very happy. I have never cooked before so I was really scared of what other people might think about it.

This month has been flying by so fast. I did not realize that it was the end of the month until a couple days ago. I have met a lot of new Korean people this month which has been very meaningful to me. To be very honest, it was hard to bring up memories to write about my grandfather this month but I did try. I think it might take a longer process to fully get my writing assignment started. However, I would really like to finish it off by the end of November. I did have mini deadlines from the last reflection which was very helpful. I thought of a minimum of one memory every week and that snowballed into some progress. I think by next month I will be able to stitch together these memories and write my paper.
