Journal #9: Bilinguals

Being bilingual has a profound effect on the brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shield against dementia. Being bilingual forces the brain to resolve internal conflict, which strengths the cognitive muscles of the brain. Bilinguals additionally have a heightened ability to monitor the environment. 

The relationship between bilingualism and intelligence is unclear, but executive function can help people carry out actions that may make them seem smarter. These actions include doing more things at once and cancelling out distractions.

However, bilinguals have may lack vocabulary in each language because they have to retain knowledge from more than one language.
