The cultural projects each gave me a better sense of what is valued in different cultures. We could not necessarily present every factor that goes into a culture, but learning a glimpse about what people do around the world helps open our eyes to the greater world. The topics varied greatly from topics of food, hookah, music, and henna, but each person presented their topic in a way that we could understand what people of that particular culture like to do in their spare time or at a particular time. I thoroughly enjoyed each presentation and thought that everyone in the class worked really hard on their power points. I also enjoyed hearing the 10-20 words in each person's own language even though I could not understand what they were saying until they translated. It gives us a better perspective on the world around us and helps us to realize what lies beyond the United States. I also found it interesting how some topics such as henna or music were things that we can find in the USA. As far as henna in the US is concerned, it's not nearly as extravagant and does not have as great of a meaning behind the henna in comparison to what was presented in class. Yet, it's good to know the origin of the traditions we comes across so close to home as well.
