How have you started writing in the target language? Do you prefer to type or write free hand? Have you started to see patterns emerge in the structures between words, clauses, and sentences? What is the relationship between simple and complex sentences? How does your knowledge of parts of speech, government, and agreement affect your ability to communicate in written contexts? Provide a sample of several short meaningful writing exercises from your target language.
I have started writing in Hebrew by looking at videos and tutorials. I found this great page where it explains the simplest way to write the Alef-Bet chart. I personally prefer writing freehand because I think it lets me remember and memorize the letters/words faster than typing. I have not really started writing a lot, but I see the patterns of adding the dots and other exceptions. The dotted ones are for non-native speakers, and they are usually found in texts like the Bible. Since it seems more complicated, I figured that it would show up in the Bible and other non-modern/native texts. I do not exactly know the difference between simple and complex sentences, but I am excited to learn more about sentence structure next semester! My knowledge of parts of speech, government, and agreement affects my ability to communicate in written contexts by allowing me to form sentences and phrases and understand the context better. Having a great understanding of them when speaking, listening, or even reading will improve my writing as well.
