Discussion Post #3

Aitchison's linguistics consists of phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Korean groups sounds differently than in English, and I already foresee this as an beginner in Korean. The article mentions that we must learn phonetics, phonology, then syntax in order to understand meaning, and I feel that I have lessened the importance and almost forgotten these preliminary steps to understand language as part of a whole. A beginner language learner might think that learning key vocabulary words might get one by in language, but it's putting all these elements together. When learning Korean, this made me realize the importance of all these elements, particularly grammar and syntax, more as I progress on my language journey.
