Thinking about the discussion of whether languages go extinct, I definitely think that languages do go extinct. Knowing from personal languages that I speak, there are definitely languages that are slowly becoming less and less common.
I think there are definitely many stages to a language dying and eventually going extinct. I would count extinction as the languages completely disappearing into the history books to the point no one speaks or writes in it. I would say that in most cases languages usually live on verbally but not in terms of writing since that is easier to carry on. For example, the language that we speak at home other than Nepali is Newari. In our case, my sister and I have learned it and can generally understand it but newer generations can not do either. I would put Nepali as a language that is dying or slowly disappearing and there are a lot of movements to keep it going.
I also definitely believe that languages that are 'dead' can be revived if there is a big movement of people that can actively speak and keep the writing going. Even if it is only verbally alive and passed on, I think that would save the language from completely 'dying' in a way.
