The Persian custom of marriages divided in two ceremonies which take place occasionally on the same day other times there coulees also be a day or two between each ceremony. The first part is called the "Aghd" which is the legal part of the marriage, when the bride and groom and their guardians sing the legal contract of marriage under the government. The second part is the "Jashn-e Aroosi", which is the reception were they actually celebrate, this part can last from three to seven days.
The feast is decorated with flowers and decorations spread all over the floor its called "Sofreh-ye-Aghd", this is set east to face the sunrise light so that the bride and groom when seated on the floor are facing the light of the sunrise.
The "Aghd" on the other hand normally took place on the brides parents house. The guests are witnessed of the marriage of the couple and this stage also initiates the wedding ceremony. The family of the bride and groom greet the guest and escort them their seats to witness the signing of the marriage contract. After everyone arrives the groom is the first to enter and take a seat, the bride comes after and joins the groom at the head of the "Sofreh-ye-Aghd". The groom sits on the right side and the bride on the left side, in this culture the right side means a place of respect.
