Israel is a very small country consisting of just over 8,000 square miles, which is slightly smaller than the state of New Jersey. This small size, however does not mean Israel lacks a diverse topographical landscape. Due to this varying landscape, the climate is just as diverse as the lay of the land.
Only 2% of the entire country of Israel is water, however much of that water has a lot of historical as well as geographical influence, In israel is the lowest lying point on earth, which is the dead sea. In this water is one of the highest contents of salt on earth. This gives humans the ability to float on the surface of the water without any effort because of the buoyancy created by the salt content. Also there is the Jordan river which plays a huge role in many stories of biblical times, including this being the location of Jesus' baptism. There is also a little piece of the red sea, which is the setting for Moses's story of parting the red sea to free the Jewish people from enslavement.
On land the topography ranges from mountainous to desert like. In Israel there are many tourist beaches as well along the Mediterranean which are frequented by people from across Europe. The desert areas lie in the south of the country while the more mountainous regions lie in the northern part. Almost 70% of the entire population of Isreal though, lives on the coastlines near the Mediterranean sea.
The climate caused by this diverse landscape is one that is very unpredictable. As expected the desert is very hot, and also the most unpredictable as temperatures can climb to over 100 or below freezing. In the mountains there can be heavy snowfall in the winter, but they in the mountains usually have nice summers. Also the mediterranean areas consist of the most stable of conditions which could explain why the population tends to gather and live in this area. Overall, for the entire country, it is generally expected not to have rainfall for the summer months.
For such a small country this is a very diverse landscape and climate, and contributes even further to the fascinating nature of this small country.
