It has always been a personal goal of mine to learn as many foreign languages as I can throughout my academic career. I have been studying French for over six years and decided to branch out to more foreign languages. My desire to pursue a career with the Department of State, the United Nations, or any international corporation has inspired me to learn Persian. Throughout the semester, as I have developed into a beginner Persian-learner, I realized the difficulty of learning a non-romance language. French was not necessarily easy to learn; however, it was not as difficult as learning a language with a completely different alphabet. Persian is a beautiful language an the writing system reminds me of calligraphy. The culture is very different from that of America or France and it has a lot of history. Despite the difficulty, I do not think I would have chosen to learn a different language. In fact, I think learning Farsi will help me in the future to learn other difficult foreign languages. I think learning to speak Farsi would be a great accomplishment and I will definitely continue to fulfill this goal.
