My favorite aspect of culture is food. Culture is extremely important in learning a foreign language. It is a tool for language learners to connect with as they learn the language. Personally, I love to eat and cook! Therefore, the cuisine of a country is what connects me to its culture. I decided to do my cultural project on the Culture Behind Afghan Cuisine because it will give me the chance to learn more about and the share the culture of food with the class. Cuisine can reveal a lot about a country and its culture and history. For example, rice is huge aspect of Afghan food. Most Afghan dishes are prepared or served with rice. Moreover, spices are often used in Afghan cooking. Spices are used on almost every dish to give it the flavor and aroma that is associated with Afghan cuisine. The use of rice can be attributed to the geographic location of Afghanistan and it's agricultural and trade practices. Afghanistan's location along the historic Silk Road can explain the use of exotic spices and other ingredients. The Culture behind Afghan Cuisine is a great cultural project because it can show how knowing a country's culture is essential to learning its language. I hope to not only convey this belief to the class through my cultural project, but I also hope to learn a lot about Afghan culture myself.
