Cultural Post #5

The drinking culture in Korea is also a big deal. If you go to Korea, you cannot escape drinking. Soju is the most popular drink in Korea. It is similar to vodka, but ranging from 12-20% alcohol percentage by volume. Another really popular drink is maekgoli, which is a traditional rice wine. It has a lower alcohol percentage and is white and creamy. It is typically the favorite of the older generations. However, both alcohols can be found all around Korea. Even though soju is typically considered a hard liquor, it can be found in convenience stores everywhere. Additionally, drinking is part of Korean culture because it can often seen as a necessity during work bonding or just hanging out with friends. If you do not drink at work parties, it can be seen as disrespectful, especially if your boss is the one that poured you the drink. If you do not drink, your boss might not like you as much, so that is why Korean's typically think that drinking is an important part of their culture.
