Cultural Post #3

South Korea is a very respectful and homogenous country. This is because Korean is heavily influenced by Confucianism. Confucianism supports harmony, respect for elders, importance of family and friends, and tradition. This influence can be seen throughout Korea and their values. In Korea there is no such thing as individualism. The way your family acts, is indicative of how valued and respected you are as well. Additionally, respect for elders is extremely important as well. You need to use formal language with them and never look them straight in the eye when talking to them. If you do not follow these rules, you will be heavily looked down upon and there has even been cases of beatings because of disrespect to an elder (even though they were only 1 or 2 years older).
