That's so unfortunate to read that such a sacred resting ground became such a hot spot for tourism. A lot of asian countries are the same way which I always found interesting because so many people go to the sacred temples to take pictures or hike around which I always found to be extremely disrespectful, so I never understood how that worked. Therefore, I'm not surprised and agree with the locals that they believe that every visit is an intrusion into the world of the spirits. It truly is an unfortunate circumstance to occur.
