Cultural Post #3

One interesting aspect of Korean culture is the Korean Wave, called “Hallyu” in Korean. Hallyu refers to the dissemination of Korean culture throughout the world, evident in the popularity of Korean music and Korean dramas. It’s an interesting concept of Korean culture, as the Korean entertainment industry, in support with the government, sought to “export” popular culture. This led to the government giving subsidies to the creative industries. One of the most popular Korean Dramas, Winter Sonata, became a massive hit in most of Asia, and is considered as one of the prime examples of the success of Hallyu. Audiences in Asia soon turned to Korea as its entertainment hub, as music, movies, and television shows are all then either dubbed or subbed and exported into many of the countries throughout Asia.
