My goals for this week were focused on reading. I set myself the task of reading through a fairly complex article in Hindi (taken from the most prominent Hindi newspaper in India, Dainik Bhaskar). Given that the newspaper is targeted at audiences who are fluent, I struggled a lot with understanding many words. My language partner guided me when I got stuck on words, and I made a list of all of the words that I didn't understand. I found it helpful to summarize each sentence as I finished reading it and to subsequently review words that I had noted down.
My language partner suggested different ways of remembering these words, one of them being understanding the root of the word. Several words in Hindi tend to tie together two words to form a single word, such as 'human rights', which is one word in Hindi that uses the words for 'human' and 'rights'. Reading the article helped me gain confidence with my reading skills and I hope to get better by reading Hindi articles in my spare time.

I also forgot to mention that I had worked on the Hindi alphabet during my last lesson with my language partner :)
