Family is extremely valued in Korean culture. Fathers are encouraged to be warm and encouraging. Mothers are encouraged to be guiding and loving. Many fathers are considered to be the backbone of the family and carry more responsibility. Mothers are classified as the care givers. Mothers are usually the ones who take time off of their work or give up their careers to take care of the children.
Unfortunately, family sizes are decreasing in Korea due to economic difficulties and more professional mothers willing to pursue their careers.
