I would go to the 3-4 regions that catalan is spoken in and study the slight differences among them. I would also study how each region perceives the others; for example, people in the Barcelona area call the language “Catalan” while people in the Valencia area call it “Valencian”. I have been learning the Catalan way of speaking, but I know that there are pronunciation differences. For example “I” is “Jo” and in Catalan they say “yo” while in Valencian they say “Jo” with the J. I would also try to observe their accents so to say and how they drag out certain words or if they pronounce any other letters or words differently than the other regions. I would focus a lot on the one region located in France and study the impact that french has on the Catalan language.
