105 - Journal #1

Through the assigned readings, I learned a lot about how the brain works to form speech and also the mechanisms by which we learn language. My favorite part about the reading was how the speed of our speech can sometimes trick our brain to thinking we said something correctly, even though we were saying something else. Applying this to my own experience, I have noticed that this happens to me very often in both languages. Interestingly, sometimes when I am speaking very quickly in Spanish I include a word or two in English. This mainly happens when I am completely immersed in Spanish (only in Latin America) and it makes my family members and people around me laugh at my Spanish. But, I have always wondered why I do not slip up as often when I am only in my home with my parents.
